"Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him." John 17:1-2
This is truly a holy ground we come upon when we read this portion of John's Epistle. At least for me it is.
And it is such an honor to enter and hear these sacred words of our holy Savior to His loving Father. This is such a powerful prayer.
The Lord knew it would be soon that He would be suffering such pain, that the world has no idea of, nor is worthy to speak of. And yet it's for the world that Christ suffered, and cried, "It is Finished!", and then died.
This was the prayer just before Christ would become the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. The sins of all those whom the Father has given to the Son out of the world. 17:6
"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in me through their word; ... Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.". 17:20,24
Thank You Lord for allowing us have this holy and perfect prayer to Your Father recorded for us by Your faithful servant John, in Your time of great distress. It is an honor, and yet you desire that we know these words, and be encouraged and edified by them. Thank You Father for giving us to Your Son, and for giving Your Son for us. Amen.

Don,
I saw your excellent comment over on Pyro. My former pastor is now in Salisbury, Maryland. Is that very close to you?
A very edifying post.
jazzy cat,
I live just outside Baltimore City. About two hours from Salisbury.
I have been thinking about quality of prayer a lot lately.
Thank you for this post.
