After our Lord washed the feet of His Apostles, He told them they would be happy, if they did the same.
We are to wash one another's feet. And in those days it was a culturally literal thing they did.
In our day, it would simply mean to care for one another, and not lording over anyone, if you are a leader in the Church.
How could anyone be of higher regard than the Christ, our Lord Jesus! He was God, and He was washing the feet of His creation! How much more are we to do it.
Jesus said, "For I have given you an EXAMPLE that you should do as I have done". John 13:15
I would imagine Peter perhaps washed the dirty hardworn feet of his friends as they visited his home. Probably not all the time, and surely not for show, but because it was a way of showing he cared for the person, and because his Lord gave him this example.
In today's culture it makes no sense to do the foot washing thing, in my humble opinion. But there are many ways in which we can serve one another. I think about my wife washing my dirty clothes, because she loves me, and she is blessing her husband in the Lord.
There are countless ways we are to "wash one another's feet", and it simply needs to flow from a heart that sees our Savior and King doing this on Holy Thursday, just a few hours before He would drink the cup of His Father's wrath, which was full of all the filthy sins of His people. What an amazing Lord we do have!
