Love is all you need?

"Love God and do what you want". -St. Augustine

Too bad the Beatles were unaware that the love they were hoping for the world to grasp was fleeting without the Lord.

The Lord must be first in our love. If not, then that love is temporal, and even vain. Love is all we need, but the defining of that love is imperative.

There are many ways of thinking what love is. Jesus came to us in order to clear that up for us. But Christ not only tells us what love is, He showed us what love is.

I really enjoy the Beatles music for the most part. I think they were very gifted and blessed of God. But to my knowledge, they have never trusted in the Lord, nor given due honor to Jesus Christ for the wonderful talents they were so blessed with.

And that's what life is all about: Giving God the honor due His name. And we can only do that through bowing the knee, and acknowledging that Christ died and rose from the dead, and that he is both Lord and God of the universe.

Jesus is the love that is "all we need". So the Beatles were right; love is all we need. However, their love is light years away from the true love, which is only found in Christ our Lord, which is the Love of all loves.

I've never been a huge Beatles fan, but you can't deny their impact on popular music and society. This song always reminds me of Larry Norman, who wrote, "The Beatles said all you need is love and then they broke up."

I'm also reminded that Paul wrote "not many wise" and I think this applies to talented as well as "smart." Prayerfully, maybe Paul and/or Ringo will be regenerated for their soul's sake and to God's glory.

Amen to that.

Thanks for sharing the quote from Larry Norman.
