"Money don't get everything it's true What it don't get, I can't use Now give me money That's what I want"- Lennon-McCartney

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."

Don,

Look at the crowds in Dollar's church. It is heartbreaking. How many of these people think they are getting 'biblical teaching.' I keep alternating among laughter, rage and sadness. I think sadness is the healthiest reaction. Thanks for posting this.

I beleive you can have two extremes in the faith of many Christians...

One - the prosperity gospel..."God wants you to have it all"....(an exaggerated paraphrase)...

Two - "God wants me to be humble - therefore, I have nothing". (another exaggerated paraphrase)...

There is a (fine) line - somewhere in between. Yes, God does want His children to prosper in all that they do (through HIM). But their prosperity (financially, physically, and spiritually) is for the purpose of bringing Glory to His name, and souls to His Kingdom....

Nice to have you come by Greg and Chris.

The money gospel is, in the words of John Piper, "a bunch of crap".

God surely can prosper us, and I have been very blessed, though I don't deserve a penny, and He shall love us in our poverty, if that's His will, or in our prospering, if that's His will.

And for us it should be well with our souls no matter if we have abundant, or we are hungry and lack. We can learn to be content in His love, grace, and especially in the Cross, the gospel of the living Lord.

Jesus said to the church of Smyrna, "“‘I know your tribulation and your poverty (but you are rich) and the slander of those who say that they are Jews and are not, but are a synagogue of Satan. Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and for ten days you will have tribulation. Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. The one who conquers will not be hurt by the second death.’"

Thanks for shining the spotlight on this Don. I was reading 2 Timothy this morning and thought these verses were particularly appropriate to your post after watching The Gospel of Greed video:

"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths." ch.4, v3-4

Blessings to you Don -

Thanks Joe. That is such a powerful verse of God's truth. And yet the false teachers will twist even this verse for their own agenda.
