"So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, Till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, And exchange it some day for a crown."-George Bennard

I sang this hymn in church last Sunday, and was very moved. Here's a rendition which is marvelous, and yet.......
Magnificent!
And yet this great hymn of praise to Christ the Lord is sung by people who believe Christ is less than the Almighty God. Jesus is their Leader, and example. They teach firmly that heaven awaits only those who live a good life in good deeds. They have a gospel of works, and a redeemer who helps us into heaven.
And I believe many Protestant churches, (and for sure: I was a Catholic), Catholic churches are singing hymns like this Mormon Tabernacle Choir, with a distorted gospel. They may have the doctrine of Christ correct as the incarnate God, but they also have a gospel of morality: A gospel of good works; of being a really nice guy; and a gospel of "just don't be a Hitler, and God will accept you, because He loves you."
On the contrary, the true Gospel is 100% pure grace. No works whatsoever. And those who come into this grace of our Lord, will love Christ, and serve Him: Not to be saved by even our love, but because He loved us and saved us. Even Hitler, who killed so many people could have been saved, if he would have come to Christ for forgiveness. And I must add, if not for the grace of God, I could have been as wicked as Hitler, and even worse really.
Amazing Love and Grace!
What a Savior! What a Lord and Master! What a God!
And a PS: I just noticed they didn't sing the last verse:
"Let all things their Creator bless,
And worship Him in humbleness,
O praise Him! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
And praise the Spirit, Three in One!" -St. Francis

lovely post and song! we need to pray for those who believe in the wrong doctrine! of works!
Pray. Amen sister. Thanks for sharing.
The sound is lovely, but my heart breaks for all those lost souls, and I feel a fire in my heart--a zeal for the one true God. May the Spirit of the Lord speak to the hearts of people-even in the MT Choir, and convince them of the veracity and exclusivity of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Amen to that Craver.
I sat with two young Mormon men and we chatted quite a bit about the Lord. And i was inspired bu his thoughtfulness toward Jesus Christ, and he even said he loved Jesus.
I told him that he is loving the wrong Jesus, and that his leader and prophet Joseph Smith, (Whom they spoke highly of), is a false prophet.
And yet we parted in peace. These wonderful lads were wolves in sheep's-clothing. they are deceiving others, and themselves.
I do pray then would come to understand God's grace, which is the bottom line; for they believe grace is mixed with works for salvation.
