Here's a group of musicians that were huge in the 70's. I had about four of their LP's. Here they write a song about: "Icarus, a character in Greek mythology. He is the son of Daedalus and is commonly known for his attempt to escape Crete by flight, which ended in a fall to his death."
I don't know why the song writer wrote this song, but it sure is well done. He is telling the story from his perspective, and they put some exceptional music together for sure, in my opinion anyway.
Most of this band I believe have come to Christ over the years. I know the lead guitar player, Kerry Livgren, loves Christ, and has made some albums in the CCM genre.
There's a lot stirring around in my mind lately about the CCM (Christian Contemporary Music) industry. So here's a post to get me started on discussing music, Christians, art, and such.
Here's a question: Does an exceptional band like Kansas bring glory to the Lord when they play their music, and sing their songs? (The singer really does have an incredible range)
Here's the story of Icarus, in case anyone was curious:
"Icarus' father, Daedalus, a talented and remarkable Athenian craftsman, attempted to escape from his exile in the place of Crete, where he and his son were imprisoned at the hands of King Minos, the king for whom he had built the Labyrinth to imprison the Minotaur (half man, half bull). Daedalus, the superior craftsman, was exiled because he gave Minos' daughter, Ariadne, a clew[1] of string in order to help Theseus, the enemy of Minos, survive the Labyrinth and defeat the Minotaur.
Daedalus fashioned two pairs of wings out of wax and feathers for himself and his son. Before they took off from the island, Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun, nor too close to the sea. Overcome by the giddiness that flying lent him, Icarus soared through the sky curiously, but in the process he came too close to the sun, which melted the wax. Icarus kept flapping his wings but soon realized that he had no feathers left and that he was only flapping his bare arms. And so, Icarus fell into the sea in the area which bears his name, the Icarian Sea near Icaria, an island southwest of Samos."

Don, did you know that Kerry Livgren has since become a Christian? He formed at band in the 80's called AD along with fellow Kansas member Dave Hope.
Kerry Livgren still is making music...and it's still some really great stuff! (here) Kerry is now working on a project, entitled "Cantata: The Resurrection Lazarus." An epic, orchestral and vocal composition. The piece features a large ensemble cast, including Matthew Ward, Phil Keaggy, David Pack and Kansas drummer Phil Ehart. It is based on John Chapter 11, and is still in production.
As well...John Elefante He and his brother (Dino) started a record label called "Pakaderm Records" in the 90's that started a list of strong Christian Rock bands from that era...
Just thought you might like to know. :)
Thanks Chris. Good stuff to know. thanks for the links.
