"You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you." Exodus 23:2

I have been reading through Exodus, and this morning I came to this verse. I actually underlined it for some reason I'm not quite sure of. Funny how I underline certain Scripture verses, that are not major verses.

Anyhow, do you think this promise of the Lord applies to us in any way? I have to wonder.
I know God was specifically speaking directly to His people whom He just rescued from the tyranny of Egypt, however, could it apply to His people today?

I'm not one for naming it and claiming it, believe me. Been down that road years ago. In fact I hate that false "Word of Faith" gospel. It is self-centered and causes much harm to people's souls, while making charlatans rich, because of their love for filthy lucre.

However, God does love His people, and enjoys to heal us, and keep us from harm. Though He also allows us to go through the sicknesses we encounter in this life at times; for His glory of course. Likewise for our good. Though it may not feel like it is for our good.

I suppose to pray to the Lord and say to Him:

"Lord, You promised Your children that you would take away sickness, if we trusted and served You alone. You said You would bless our bread and water, or at least You promised this to Israel, Your children, 4,000 years ago. Could we ask You, dear Lord, to do the same for us: For our family, and for our local church? I don't ever want to be presumptuous, but Lord, I cry to You to take this swine flu away from among us. Your will be done. For Your glory and for the honor of Your name. Amen."

I'm actually doing all this, (I suppose it's an ulterior motive), because my oldest grandson, Joshua, is quite sick. And it may be the flu. He has a 101 fever.
(If you think of it, could you pray for Josh?) [Josh playing soccer]

And P.S., Even if the Lord allows the flu to bite us and knock us down for a while, I will hopefully praise Him, and even thank Him in the midst of being afflicted. As the Psalm composer wrote:

"Remember your word to your servant,
in which you have made me hope.
This is my comfort in my affliction,
that your promise gives me life. ......

Teach me good judgment and knowledge,
for I believe in your commandments.
Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word. .....

It is good for me that I was afflicted,
that I might learn your statutes.
The law of your mouth is better to me
than thousands of gold and silver pieces." (Psalm 119:49-50;66-67;71-72)

jeez, tough question BUT I feel the Word is Christ and must be approved of God. Too basic I guess but it works for me.
I will pray for your grandson! Prayer always works! but we must remeber God is in it. It is His timeing etc!
