I was reading this one verse this morning, and the churches in Revelation came to mind. The Lord sent His charge to Pergamos & Thyatira to repent of sexual immorality, or fornication, as the King James says. And yet the Lord commended them as well, for their love, and works.
And it seems this is exactly what Paul is saying to the Thessalonians. He tells them to abstain from sexual immorality, for it's God's will that you be sanctified. He tells them they love one another, which is good, but some of you are living like the Gentiles, who love sexual promiscuity.
The Lord has some sobering words for the two churches in Revelation. You either repent, or else. Scary words from the King of kings.
And does the Church ever need to hear these words, and heed them today! There is sexual perversion standing in the pulpits, and the Church is divided over this blantant disregard of God's truth and will. And that's astounding to me, because it's so clear in God's Word.
"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you should know how to posses his own vessel in sanctification and honor, not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God." ver. 3-5
I pray the Lord would strengthen us all to keep ourselves from "passions of lust", in a world flooded under a ocean of sexual "anythin, and everything goes. Amen.

"I will try to remember to pray for Mark. He is where he is, and I pray the Lord would show him his shortcomings."
Your quote here (along with the intial post and many other comments) fills me with grief.
Who are you to point out a man's "shortcomings". That is not your place. If what he is doing is truly "wrong", then God will take care of it. Leave it to him. Pray for him in love, not in disgust at what you might define as wrong.
He obviously must be doing something right to have gotten to the place he is at today.
From Matthew 7
"Don't pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It's easy to see a smudge on your neighbor's face and be oblivious to the ugly sneer on your own. Do you have the nerve to say, 'Let me wash your face for you,' when your own face is distorted by contempt? It's this whole traveling road-show mentality all over again, playing a holier-than-thou part instead of just living your part. Wipe that ugly sneer off your own face, and you might be fit to offer a washcloth to your neighbor."
Hey Nick thanks for visiting.
I suppose you're speaking of Mark Driscoll?
I love the man. I will pray for him, and his shortcomings.
If you know him, would you share my blog and post with him, and let me know what he thinks. I mean no disrespect.
I wasn't judging him the way you think. You really don't know my heart. But that's alright, you have to say what you think.
Though I appreciate your concern for brothers judging one another. And I certainly do it at times. So thanks I need to be reminded. Thanks.
