"Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? and not one of them will fall to ground without your Father's will."
Jesus answered Pilate: "You could have no power at all over Me, except it were given to you from above".
"For You, O Lord, have done as it pleased You."
"Yet it pleased the Lord to crush Him; You shall make His soul an offering for sin".
" ... according to the good pleasure of His will. ... according to His good pleasure which He has purposed in Himself. ... according to the purpose of Him who works all things after the counsel of His own will."
"For of Him, and through Him, and to Him, are all things: to Him be glory for ever. Amen."
My wife and I were blessed to visit 10th Presbyterian Church in Philly, and to hear an inspiring message from Pastor James Boice, on the sovereignty of God. He was a true man of the Word, and he was a humble and gracious pastor, and I was surprised that he greeted everyone after the service, and I was able to speak with him.
I remember in the sermon him saying, "No matter what you are blessed and gifted with, it is from God, and it is for His glory.
He laid out how the sovereinty and glory of God go hand in hand. He said things like: If you have a nice smile then it's a gift from the Lord, and you should smile for His glory. And I wish i would have purchased a tape of that message. But it's in my heart, sort of. And it's in the Scriptures, that's for sure.
And that's where we need to be spending much of our time, don't we. The Bible is sadly becoming just another book. What a tragedy.
When we truly understand, through the Word, that it is God who is the supreme ruler of all things, and that He is in control, then our hearts shall experience His rest and peace. However, we will never know this quiteness for our souls, if we never understand that he is the sovereign One.
Sure, life is bitter, and there's suffering. But all the heaviness our souls have to bear is from our Father's loving hand of providence. He allows this for our good, and most of all, for His glory.
If we can grasp this truth, then the peace of God will rule our hearts, as we press on, and grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is what life is all about, isn't it.
"This is eternal life... to know Jesus Christ".

Thank God that He is God...
Don,
Good points. I am really enjoying and respecting James Boice's commentary on Romans as I work through Chapter 8 on my blog.
I have enjoyed your comments around the blogs. I have also linked you from my site. It is unconditional and IMO based on your being in accord with solid doctrine on the essentials.
Another great post, Donaldus. Isn't it amazing how the sovereignty of God is such a "controversial" doctrine today when it was clearly intended to comfort the church?
J.D., Amen!
Jazzy, It's an honor. Thank you.
Gregorious, Amen bro!
