"The Prince of Preachers".

"Be on guard against men". Matt. 10:17

"I believe if we were more like Christ, we should be much more loved by His friends and much more hated by His enemies. I do not believe the world would be half so lenient to the Church nowadays if it were not that the Church has grown complacent to the world. When any of us speak up boldly, mercenary motives are imputed to us, our language is turned upside down, and we are abhorred of men. We get smooth things, brethern, because I am afraid we are too much like the prophets who prophesied peace, peace, where there was no peace.
Let us be true to our Master, stand out and come out and be like Him, and we must expect the same treatment that He had." - Charles Haddon Spurgeon 1834-1892

There undoubtly shall be those who will dislike, and even hate, what we stand for as disciples of Christ. We need to understand that. And then there will be a great variety of attitudes towards us for just as many attitudes we have.

So I'm simply going to leave these words of Charles Spurgeon for you to ponder. And may the Lord Jesus Christ fill us with His wisodm and grace, so that we can walk as light and salt in this world; as wise as snakes, and harmless as doves. May we exemplify the Savior, as we "learn of Him, for He is lowly and meek". Amen.

Have a blessed Lord's Day.

I laughed as I read this because the blogosphere makes it easy to say things and be hated. Christians and nonchristians alike can handle words with haste and disregard like uzi machine guns.

Now, when we wisely speak words of truth and grace and the enemies of Christ hate us for all the right reasons... well, that's something that we do not need to be ashamed about.

The emergent church people must not like Spurgeon.

Always good to hear from you Wayne.

prof howdy, what's up with that 'logo'.

Dave, nice to hear from you. Nope, they don't.

In fact the seeker people don't either. Charles Haddon is old hat for our culture.

That's not across the board though.

But it's ashame many don't want to glean from this great man of the Lord. Sad.
