Let me know what you think of this, um, whatever you would call it., if you don't mind.

This Rob Bell is popular. He speaks in his own "church", and he goes about and speaks all over. How can this guy be popular? He is void of any meaning to me. Yes he talks about Jesus' death and resurrection, but he seems to me, he is trying to impress, and come from a cool angle, or something. He really doesn't speak pure and simple, so that one can understand.
The death of Christ was for me, a filthy sinner; He shed His precious innocent blood for my cursed and guilty soul. And He rose from the dead on the the third day for me. What a savior and God this is!
That is the Gospel; the good news for sinners, and for people under God's wrath, who are all of us; all humans.

This guy is empty to me. Let me know what you think, if you don't mind.

And here's a preacher/teacher of the Scriptures, a Christian, who, for me, speaks the truth, clearly, with meaning, so that you can understand.

(Sorry; this is long for a comment.)

There's a big difference, and it's not just showmanship and flair.

Bell said:
This world matters.
They will all go on in God's good world.
Do you believe this? That's the question Jesus asked then, and that's the question Jesus asks now.

My response: Bell obfuscated the perspicuity of the gospel. He made the clear unclear, so that when he gets around to, "Do you believe this?" I don't know what the heck he's talking about. But hey, if Bell said that's what Jesus asked then and now, the answer must necessarily be yes, right? I know this much: Bob did not demonstrate that the Creator matters, while he emphasized that created things matter.

Horton said:
I think that we are living in a way that is consistent with our assumptions.
(From God to you) You're the problem... Receive my judgment, and receive my grace.

My response: Horton may not be as flashy as Bell, but his words sound more true. I wish he had used more Scripture in this presentation, as it would have packed more power and authority that way.

Thanks Craver for chiming in. I really appreciate your discrenment.

I wish Horton would teach from the Scriptures more as well. But he always does pint to the Word, the whole Word.
And he can at times be hard to understand, but not with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I see where the Gospel is still being twisted and watered down, and so people in church are being dumbed down. And it concerns me.

I pray that God would pour out a hunger for His Word, and people would be starving, and so go to His Word, and be satisfied.

It's a precious treasure and God's greatest gift to us, other than Himself.

Don...

I have to say, when Rob Bell's clip was done I wanted to jump up and applaud...(in fact, I did shout "yeah")...

Bell is talking about The Gospel of the Kingdom...which is at hand. It's not merely a message of hope for the future in eternity - but a message of power, victory, and righteousness here and now...becuase here and now matters to God.

Evil, death, sin, sickness, shame, guilt...and all that has been defeated NOW & HERE, by the resurrection of Christ....

We ARE seated at the right hand of the Father...now.

Now...Horton's clip - is a teaching on something somewhat different. (I like how he 'dubiously' throws in the Olsteen title)...I agree 100% with what he is teaching here. The difference is that he is teaching only on the message of Jesus meeting our need for a Savior.

Bell's clip is touching on something much larger...

There-in lies the "issue" of a seeming contradiction.

There is too much "What about me?" going on and not enough "What about God?" Even among some of my churchmates.

My heart grieves over the knowledge that many people who think they have the hope of eternal life are going to be told by Jesus, "Depart from me; I never knew you.

Chris, I didn't get any of that from Bell.

I like what you said and agree. But I have heard Bell other times and he, to me, tries to sound cool and hip. And the Holy Bible is simply the truth.

Preaching the truth, and teaching the truth should be a pure and simple word to the Church, and especially to the lost.

The Gospel is the power of God to save dead sinners, who are under God's wrath.

And there are the deep things of the Scriptures for us as well.

But the resurrection of Christ is a simple truth, that Christ died to save sinners, and He rose to testify to this truth.

And yes it is more than not being seperated from God in hell for all eternity, but it is that as well.

And lets say we have no other benefits from the Lord then being saved from His judgment, and an eternity in hell, which is what we all deserve, that would be awesome in itself.

But I agree eternal life is much more.

Thanks for stopping by bro.

Craver, you speak words that are heavy, but true.

Jesus said there would be many false teachers and false preachers, who would be very deceiving, and if possible they would deceive even God's elect.
That is a crafty Satan.

But Satan can not twist the pure truth of the Gospel of Christ died for our sins, and rose for our justification. But he tries and tries, and perverts and twists.

May we all be bold, and humble enough to proclaim the truth in it's purity and power. Amen.
