Paul the Apostle penned these inspired words of God to the believers in Ephesus 2000 years ago, and they are just as true today:
"Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church"
May we all listen and learn from these words is my most earnest prayer. And then the Church will be strong, and we will avoid all the false teachers that have infiltrated the Body of Christ.

It is a challenge even for the teachers who are doctrinally sound. I imagine that even a good man can be pushed to his limit and feel exasperated. Nevertheless, we are to "speak the truth in love." That can be a tough thing sometimes.

I heard Alistair Begg say this morning that his life as a pastor is never boring. It is at times very difficult, and other times very rewarding, but never boring.
He is such a fine pastor. I am encouraged, convicted, and edified from his gift of teacher and exhorting from the Word of God.
