"And they rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment". Luke 23:56b

Jesus was to put an end to the whole "shadow" of religious orders for the people of the Lord, and He did, when He cried "It is Finished!", and then bowed His head, and "gave up the ghost".
The Temple veil in the Holy Place, where one would come into the presence of the Lord to seek mercy and forgiveness, was destroyed, forever, when our Savior cried "It is Finished!".
No more priests nor sacrifices. No more ordinances. These were shadows of Christ, and His Cross. He was the "Lamb of God", who became sin for His elect people. He is now the living High Priest, with scars in His hands and feet, and side, who is in heaven interceding on behalf of His people, as Satan comes an accuses. He is the King of kings, and rules the universe with His omnipotent power, and at the Cross, crushed the head of Satan, the devil, the god of this world.

He gave His life on Friday, the Preparation Day, and now on Saturday, His body lay wrapped in fine linen in a tomb. And the Jewish people are resting on this Sabbath as the law commands. However, that law was fulfilled by Christ Jesus, and on the next day, Sunday, the Sabbath shall be changed in a great way.
Sunday will become a Day of rest for the people of the Lord, and a Day for gathering together to worship the risen Lord Jesus. But, every day, really, will become a day of rest, for Jesus Christ is our rest, and He now abides within each and every child of God through the Holy Spirit.
We, the Lord's people, are now the Temple of God.

What a Savior and God we have!
